The UW-Milwaukee men’s basketball team hosted their annual black and gold scrimmage on Monday night at the Klotsche Center, with cream earning bragging rights with their victory over the black team.
The event began with head coach Bart Lundy giving fans a glimpse as well as the expectations he has for the team coming into the 2024-25 season.
The event was open to the public, allowing fans to get a peek of what is to come for the upcoming season. It also allowed fans to meet the new additions to the team as well as the returning players.
Lundy is entering his third year as the head coach and has high expectations for this upcoming squad.
“We play fast and everyone knows we play fast,” said Lundy. “They have to earn every single board, so it feels like they play uphill. Then when we get the ball, the floor tilts and we play downhill. We need our crowd to help us tilt the floor this season.”
The cream team defeated the black team 68-66, a close match up. The cream was led by senior Kentrell Pullian and junior Jamichael Stilwell. The black team was led by junior John Lovelace Jr. and senior Erik Pratt.
Pullian was able to make multiple threes that helped lead the team to victory. Throughout the entire night, a player to watch was sophomore Learic Davis. Davis was able to sink five three-pointers, making an impact on both ends of the court.
The Panthers picked up a variety of key additions this offseason including senior, AJ McKee from Queens University, who was recently named to the preseason all-league second team.
The Panthers were recently voted to win the Horizon League regular season championship. This is the first time since 2006 that the Panthers have been picked at the top.
Milwaukee’s first game takes place Nov. 4 at the Klotsche Center against Lakeland.
