Today: Happy holidays, Panthers! Last night’s drizzle will have depleted fully by morning, leaving the potential for a light sheet of ice on the road in the early hours. However, it should only be a minor concern for Santa’s last few deliveries and will pass by mid-morning. Although it won’t be the snowy Christmas day many have hoped for, it is perfect weather for some winter frolicking! The temperature will be unseasonably warm thanks to the continuation of yesterday’s shortwave passing through the area. Expect temps throughout the day to hang around the mid-30’s paired with cloudy skies.
Tonight: The evening will look very similar, although it will warm up marginally as early roots of a low pressure system take hold. However, winds will stay calm and no precipitation is expected (despite the remaining clouds in the sky).
Tomorrow: The low pressure front fully takes hold on Friday, bringing precipitation throughout the day. The dry air in the upper level combined with warm surface temperatures prevent snow from forming, so expect rain and some sleet as the front passes. Although the potential for that freezing rain is minimal, pay special caution in the early morning and late evening during your holiday travels. In those hours the temperature drops, and the possibility for slick roads will strengthen. Otherwise, the day will be cloudy with temperatures between 32 and 35 degrees.
Extended: The low pressure front will have passed by Saturday, leaving cloudy skies and warm weather. The high for the day will be 41 degrees and the evening low will be 36 as an incoming cold front starts to affect the area. By Sunday the cold front will be setting in, bringing a high of 39 and a low of 24. Some precipitation is attached to this is cold front, and the rain will likely start in the later hours of the evening. This precipitation will continue into Monday morning, bringing even colder temperatures in the mid-20’s.
