Today: The 5-Day Weather Forecast December 28, 2025 commences as we wake up in the high 30s. This rises no higher than 44, for we will be combatting heavy rain from a low-pressure system. Within the heaviest downpours, gusts could reach 20 mph, but we should only feel a light breeze averaging 6 mph until tonight. While Milwaukee sees heavy rainstorms with some possible thunder, the severity of these remains low. As a word of caution, if traveling outside of Milwaukee today, know storms will be more severe crossing the border into Illinois. Additionally, in the afternoon, snow starts in the north and west of Wisconsin and moves into Southeastern Wisconsin in the late evening. If traveling out in these directions, understand winds will be higher, temperatures significantly colder, and snow falling quickly. In Milwaukee, rain totals to half an inch before late evening, when precipitation flips to snow.
Tonight: As this intensifying low pressure exits at 6 p.m., winds dramatically increase with the onset of the cold-front. Averaging 23 mph with gusts reaching 50 mph, travel conditions will become quite hazardous. The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory for tonight into tomorrow, citing the strong winds. Blowing snow, steady snowfall, and plummeting temperatures are the main concerns for causing low visibility and slippery roads. Winter Weather Advisories also surround Milwaukee County currently, but one has not been issued yet for us. In Southern Wisconsin, snowfall rates should range within 0.5 to 1.0 inches per hour during the peak. South of I-94 and near the I-94 and I-43 interchange, this should be less. Temperatures fall to 30 by 9 p.m. and continue downward to the low of 19 Monday morning.
Tomorrow: High winds and lingering snowfall hinder the morning commute until 10 a.m., so exercise caution if travelling. Although the snow stops with an approximate accumulation of an inch and a half, drifting skews snow depth in many areas. Due to the properties of a well-developed low-pressure system, some of the warm air launched northward from yesterday swings back around into Milwaukee. This gives us a high of 23 before the system moves more eastward. While pressures ease, winds ease slightly into the evening as well, averaging 14 mph and gusting up to 33 mph. Monday ends quietly with temperatures sink back to the single digits. Clouds briefly break as winds calm to 10 mph.

Tuesday: With Sunday’s low-pressure system rotating far to the northwest, a weak low-pressure system drifts into Wisconsin at 1013 mb. In winter, 990 mb or greater usually constitutes to a weaker low-pressure system, or low, and 990 mb or less constitutes to a stronger low. Albeit a weak system in these terms, the 1013-mb low merges with Sunday’s low, currently at 974 mb. This induces some southwestern winds going into Tuesday, along with some snow. Calmer than Monday, winds average 14 mph, with gusts up to 32 mph. Models place most of the accumulation to the north, but Milwaukee could see a couple tenths of an inch. Meanwhile, temperatures rise into the night hitting 25 before Wednesday arrives.
Extended: Wednesday sees more snow as the low, coupled with a high-pressure system, shoves a snowstorm through Southwestern Wisconsin. For now, the snow should stay to the south of Milwaukee, taking a path through Platteville, Chicago, and Fort Wayne. Stay up to date with your forecasts to stay safe. Otherwise, Wednesday cools down from a early morning high of 25 into the single digits into the new year. Midnight chimes, and temperatures hit 7 before rising to 12 for a high on Thursday. Comparing Thursday to days prior, average winds of 10 mph with gust of 25 mph seem like a luxury. The first day of the new year will end at a temperature of 3.
