Today: The 5-Day Weather Forecast starts with a freeze. After Friday’s high of 61 and late-night cold front, we have returned to the 20s. Snowflakes fluttering ahead of the front strengthen significantly around noon, as the main storm band flows over Southeastern Wisconsin. Winds do not pose much of a concern at maximum gusts of 22 mph. Remain careful, however, because snow might accumulate fast in spots, and less traveled streets will feel the brunt of this. Fighting the northern winds, temperatures only reach 29 for a high. Towards the afternoon, snow begins tapering off, finally exiting around 9 p.m., well after sunset at 5:38 p.m.

Tonight: Winds come from the northeast, resulting in lake effect snow, especially after midnight. Expect I-43 to be most affected by this, as some heavy snow bands could drop up to 2 inches. After all snow showers finish by midday Sunday, snow totals could be around 3 inches. Although unlikely, this could be more if snow bands float towards Milwaukee more than models show. Temperatures reach a low of 18 due to steady 10-mph winds and significant cloud cover.

Tomorrow: Sunday sees mostly clear skies thanks to the entering high pressure to our north. As Saturday’s winds persist coupled with its cold front, temperatures struggle to rise. Only hitting a cold 26 for a high, Milwaukee’s temperature departs from historical high temperature averages of 39 by more than 10 degrees. In the night, temperatures fall to a low of 18, supported by now-eastern winds blowing relatively warmer air into the city.

Monday: The morning commute should see no hinderances Monday morning as temperatures rise, entering back into the 30s by late morning. Winds out of the southeast allow higher temperatures, but gathered clouds temper this to a high of 34. Pushing through the Rockies and retreating to the south, a low-pressure system causes some waves, establishing a rather active week for weather. Precipitation returns to the forecast Monday night with the passing of a low-pressure wave. This induces a wintry mix which continues into mid-Tuesday. Temperatures sink to a low of 28 Monday night.

Extended: Beyond Monday, models have trouble forecasting with the low in the south and a possible high pressure entering from the northwest. Temperatures should stay on the rise with highs in the mid-30s to 40s by Wednesday. Low temperatures lag somewhat behind but still rise into the mid-30s by Wednesday night. Winds Tuesday and Wednesday do not seem too high, but Wednesday will see the highest winds of the forecast, averaging 11 mph with 24 mph gusts. Late Tuesday night, the southern low pressure might combine with another low entering through Montana. This could send some more intense storms towards Milwaukee in the second half of the week. Stay tuned to stay safe!
