Today: Tuesday is setting up to be an active weather day across the Milwaukee area. To start the day the area will be on the back side of a low pressure system which may create an isolated shower or two across Milwaukee (10% chance). Not much accumulation if any is anticipated from any shower which will depart the area by 10:00 am. Temperatures will rise through the 30s in the morning before topping out in the mid 40’s for a day time high with overcast conditions. Winds will be blustery on Tuesday with 10-15 mph sustained speeds and gust up to 35 mph. Heading into the evening winds will relax slightly to around 10 mph but gusts could still be around 30 mph as a cold front starts to approach the area from the northwest. Ahead of this front there will be another chance (40%) of more rain showers that could turn into wet snowflakes as the cold front passes through overnight.
Overnight: During the overnight hours a cold front for the northwest will finally move through the Milwaukee area. When this happens temperatures will slide way back into the low 20’s for a low along with that some rain that may change over to some wet snow ending by Wednesday mid morning. Little to no accumulation is expected for the area, it will just look a bit dreary overnight. Finally, winds will change to the northwest overnight with the passing of this front. Winds speeds will remain elevated overnight with sustained speeds around 15 mph and gusts around 25 mph until Wednesday morning.
Tomorrow: Wednesday will start off with overcast skies as light snow will come to an end by the mid morning hours. A weak high pressure system will move in from the northwest and keep to the west of Wisconsin for the majority of the day. Temperatures will return to a normal city for January with highs topping out in the low 20’s. By the late afternoon we make a few peaks of sunshine like Tuesday before dusk comes about. Winds will remain constant throughout the day Wednesday from the north with sustained speeds between 15-20 mph and gusts could still be around 20 mph until the overnight hours. During the overnight winds will calm to around 10 mph still form the north and temperatures will dive deep in the mid teens for a low. Finally, skies should clear overnight thanks to the high pressure system which will still be close by, but starting to move off to the south and east.
Extended: The extended forecast looks a little unsettling starting Thursday night. As high pressure moves off to the south a stronger low pressure with a stationary front and cold front on the back side of the system will bring the next weather maker to the Milwaukee area which will affect us through Saturday. Thursday will be the best of the day to the extent with a high pressure exiting to the south. Skies will be partly cloudy throughout the day with highs in the mid 20s and a northwest wind around 10 mph. However, skies will become overcast again by the evening and into the overnight hours which is ahead of the aforementioned low pressure system. Lows on Thursday will not be all that cold, settling around 20 and winds will turn to the southwest with speeds around 10-15 mph because of the next system. By Friday morning a low pressure traversing the U.S./Canada will trail a stationary boundary through Wisconsin which will bring a snow chance through Saturday to the Milwaukee area. Right now it looks like a good 2-3 inches with isolated spots picking up 4 inches could accumulate throughout the area. Models are still inconclusive about this system so stay tuned to this system. Beside the overcast skies and snow falling, Friday and Saturday’s high temperatures will be in the low 30’s for Friday and near 20 on Saturday. Lows could end up in the mid teens on Friday night and single digits Saturday. Winds Friday and Saturday will be from the west northwest with sustained speeds around 10-15 mph with speeds decreasing to around 10 mph Friday night and last through Saturday.
