Today, July 22: High pressure will keep your Tuesday calm and mostly sunny. Some afternoon clouds may dot the sky, but otherwise, there will be an ample amount of sunshine throughout the day. Winds will be a bit gusty, blowing upwards of 15 mph out of the southeast. As a result, temperatures are expected to reach the upper 70s and possibly even the low 80s. An afternoon lake breeze might develop later in the afternoon, cooling areas close to the lake. No precipitation is expected, but a stray shower could pop up. Anything that does happen to develop will be isolated in nature and isn’t expected to be severe.
Tonight: Mostly clear for the first half of the night, but clouds do move in after about 1 am. There is a slight chance for some showers as the remnants of a system that pushed through the western part of the state come through our area, but the chances look slim at best for any rain. Temperatures will fall into the low 70s.
Wednesday, July 23: The extreme heat and oppressive humidity move back into the area with a stronger high pressure system that moves into the area. Temperatures will soar into the upper 80s and low 90s for the lake shore communities, and well into the 90s inland. Dew points will be in the low 70s, putting the heat index (or the “feels like temperature”) into the upper 90s and low 100s. A southwesterly wind will help blow in this hot and humid air, offering little relief. As the evening and overnight hours proceed, temperatures will fall into the mid-to-upper 70s with dew points hanging out in the low 70s. As of now (noon on July 21st), Milwaukee is not under any heat-related advisories/warnings. However, precautions should still be taken. Limit time outside and stay in cool, air-conditioned places. Drink plenty of water and limit strenuous activities.
Extended Forecast, Thursday, July 24 – Saturday, July 26: Thursday will be similar to Wednesday. Temperatures once again soar into the low 90s with dew points in the upper 60s and low 70s. Heat indices will be in the mid-to-upper 90s yet again. However, some relief is on the horizon. A chance of showers and storms on Thursday afternoon will lead into a greater chance overnight as a cold front passes through. Severe weather isn’t expected, but that could change as we get closer, so make sure to stay tuned for updates! Friday will be cooler in comparison to the last couple days, with temperatures in the mid-80s. Dew points, however, will remain in the upper 60s. A chance of rain will be present throughout the day, but doesn’t look to be a washout. Saturday looks to be similar, with highs in the low 80s and a chance for rain in the afternoon.
