Today: Wednesday will be a seasonable March day across the Milwaukee area. The day will start with mostly cloudy skies in the morning with temperatures rising through the upper 20s and low 30s before reaching the upper 30s by the afternoon. Winds from the south will be a little strong in the morning with sustained speeds around 15-20 mph but, by the afternoon winds calm to around 5 mph and turn to the southwest with overcast conditions. There is a 20% chance of a leftover isolated snow showers from a low pressure system to the south of Wisconsin that impacted Milwaukee last night. Most will stay dry though through the morning and rest of the day as the low pressure progresses eastward. By the evening winds will increase slightly to around 10 mph because of an incoming weather maker that will move in overnight Wednesday.

Overnight: During the overnight hours a low weak low pressure system traversing the upper mid west and trailing a low pressure trough will progress eastward toward Wisconsin. This trough will bring with it a 70% chance of rain/snow showers by early Thursday morning. Other weather conditions overnight will feature winds out of the southwest under 5 mph and temperatures only making down into the low 30’s with overcast conditions.

Tomorrow: Thursday will start out on a rainy note. As aforementioned a low pressure system trailing a low pressure trough will swing through Wisconsin from the west and bring with it a line of showers with a few wet snow flakes mixed in by early morning. This line of rain/snow showers will arrive by 7am and last until mid afternoon. No accumulation is expected from this system, it’s just going to be messy. Furthermore, isolated showers chances will continue after the passing of this low pressure trough through the evening.   Temperatures in the afternoon will reach the low 40s with winds out of the east-southeast around 5 mph. By the evening most rain chances will come to an end and winds should calm as they turn to the northeast. Also, the low pressure system itself will sink southward under Wisconsin and move off to the east. During the overnight hours temperatures will drop down into the low 30’s with overcast skies and winds barely noticeable out of the east.

Extended: A weekend warm up is on the way in the extended forecast. Friday a low pressure system from the west with a warm front attached will move east over the course of the day and eventually the warm front will swing through Milwaukee by the late afternoon and into the evening. This front will spark isolated on-and-off rain throughout Friday afternoon and evening between 1pm-4pm, causing skies to be overcast over the Milwaukee area for the majority of the day. Winds Friday morning will be barely noticeable from the southeast with temperatures rising through the mid and upper 30’s before topping out in the mid 40’s for a high by the afternoon. Also by the afternoon, winds will increase slightly to around 5 mph ahead of the warm front. By the evening and overnight winds will change to the southwest but speeds will stay consistent with skies remaining cloudy as well. Saturday will be the warmest day out of the weekend. In the morning temperatures will rise through the 30’s and 40’s before reaching the middle 50’s by the afternoon with mostly sunny skies. Winds will be under 5 mph in the morning, but by the afternoon wind speeds will increase slightly to around 5 mph from the west before calming again by the evening and shifting to the south. There is an additional 10% chance for an isolated shower during the early afternoon. Mostly cloudy skies and southwest winds will increase to around 15-20 mph due to an approaching cold front, and temperatures will fall into the upper 30’s for a low. Sunday a cool down will be in store because of a cold front that will approach Wisconsin from the northwest Sunday morning. Before the front arrives overcast skies with temperatures being able to reach into the high 40’s for a daytime high and winds turning to the northwest with speeds between 20-25 mph sustained and possibly higher gusts. Finally, the cold front will pass in the afternoon hours. Winds in the evening and into the overnight will decrease slowly to around 10 mph from the north, but changing to the northeast by Monday morning. Temperatures overnight will fall into the upper 20’s for and overnight low with clearing skies.
