Forecast Overview: Temperatures will be on a roller coaster this week with rain chances returning. However, by the weekend a strong dome of high pressure comes in which will make for mostly sunny skies across the area. Skies will cloud up the second half of the weekend in advance of the next weather maker that will get in by Monday.

Today: Above average temperatures continue to be a trend across Wisconsin which will continue for Milwaukee on Wednesday thanks to a low pressure system trailing a warm front which will glide through Wisconsin from the southwest and move to northeast Wednesday afternoon. In the morning we’ll see mostly cloudy skies as temperatures rise through the 40’s and 50’s before reaching the mid 60’s by mid afternoon with skies becoming mostly sunny. Southwest winds will be increasing throughout the day and end up a little on the harsh side by the afternoon. In the morning winds will be around 10 mph sustained, but by the afternoon speeds will increase to around 15-20 mph sustained with gusts up to 30 mph. By the evening wind speeds will begin to wane a little bit backing  down to 10-15 mph sustained and gust lowering to 20 mph or below.

Overnight: With the passing of the warm front through Wednesday and overcast sky condition building back in overnight temperatures around the area will only be able to dip into the high 40’s for an overnight low. Winds will ease to around 10 mph sustained. As the aforementioned warm front from the day continues to move northeast overnight it will get absorbed by a stationary front that is set up in the U.P. of Michigan. This stationary front will to change into a cold front and begin to sag southeast overnight and create some unsettled weather on Thursday afternoon.

Tomorrow: Thursday will feature a cool down and the return of some small rain chances over the Milwaukee area courtesy of a cold front from the northwest that will push southeast towards the area in the afternoon. Before this front arrives overcast skies will dominate as temperatures rise into the low 50’s for a high in the early afternoon with winds turning to the northeast around 15-20 mph sustained. There is about a 90% chance of showers by 4 p.m. over Milwaukee. It won’t rain the entire time during this period but from time to time light rain showers will pass by the area. New precipitation amounts from this weather maker should be less than a tenth of an inch. All showers will come to an end by 10 p.m. which will leave overcast skies over Milwaukee overnight. Furthermore, temperatures will cool into the high 20s for a low with winds turning to the north between 10-15 mph sustained. Finally, behind this cold front a strong dome of high pressure will make its way toward Wisconsin from the northwest, which will set up a pretty nice weekend ahead.

Extended: A nice weekend looks to be in store over the Milwaukee area. Friday-Sunday we’ll see temperatures range from the high 30’s on Friday then jumping into the high 40’s by Saturday and finally reaching the low 50s again by Sunday. This is all made possible by a strong dome of high pressure that will begin to move in Wisconsin’s direction Thursday night. Friday morning we’ll see mostly sunny skies with gusty northeast winds between 10-15 mph sustained. By the afternoon wind speeds will weaken a bit ranging between 5-10 mph which will last through the evening when they will turn to the east. By the overnight hours clear skies will hover over Milwaukee with winds increasing again from 5-10 mph and turning to the northwest. Saturday will start off the same, with mostly sunny skies and winds between 5-10 mph from the northwest in the morning, but by the afternoon winds will switch to the west because of the aforementioned high pressure system that will pass by Wisconsin to the southwest. By the evening and into the overnight clouds will fill back in and winds between 5-10 mph will turn to the south as the high pressure systems starts to move off to the south and east of Wisconsin. Finally Sunday will act as a transition day for Milwaukee’s weather. The high pressure system will move far off to our east because of a weak low pressure system incoming that will arrive by Monday. Before that Sunday will feature partly sunny skies and gusty south winds between 10-15 mph throughout the day. Overnight winds will stay consistent and skies will become overcast because of the next weather maker.
