The following letter is a message from the UWM Post editors to the readers of the publication’s first print piece since 2012.
Dear UWM Post Readers,
The UWM Post has existed as an online-only publication after it ceased printing physical newspapers in 2012. We have been working to bring back physicality to the information, art and community resources a UWM student receives.
This physical piece you now hold, MKZine, is that work coming to full fruition. Most important, this is information coming to you directly from fellow students.
The UWM Post was once the largest independent college weekly publication in Wisconsin. While we can never realistically get to that place again, something physical must exist.
This has been a long time coming, with many failed efforts as everything becomes easier to just exist digitally. However, as children of this digital age, we are beginning to understand the undeniable value of face-to-face and physical media.
Whether you take this and never read the words inside or choose to read every word, just know that taking this piece of paper connects you to something more meaningful than you’ll find online.
Countless hours and numerous amounts of effort have been put into this piece of physical media in front of you. The UWM Post has social history that goes back to the beginnings of UWM and all the way to today. Within this catalogue of shared ideas is a direct line of students organizing together and forming stories.
This line will not be stopping anytime soon. It will only grow longer and continue branching out.
Please continue to follow the UWM Post on this venture. I ask you to extend your patience as we go through developing a sustainable foundation, which will allow us to continuously print issues of MKZine.
If you wish to join this adventure in any capacity and become part of the UWM Post legacy, don’t hesitate to reach out. We will have weekly meetings this semester on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in the UWM Student Union, room 344.
