The following letter is a message from Charlie Skrade, the UWM Post multimedia editor, to the readers of the publication’s “MKZine: Student Voter Guide.”

Dear UWM Post Readers,

Whether you’re new to campus, a transfer student from out of state or have recently moved from the dorms to your first apartment, whenever an election comes around, there’s always some confusion about voting.

Many students have questions: “Where do I go to vote?” “Do I have to mail it in?” “Where do I send it to?” “Do I have time to vote with my schedule?”

First, double-check if you’re registered to vote. If you’re not 100% sure, you can go online and check the Wisconsin database to see if you’re registered to vote. If you haven’t registered to vote yet, don’t fret! You can register to vote in person at your polling place when you go to vote.

If you’re living in the residence halls, here’s a list of the polling places:

  • Sandburg Hall: UWM Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, 2100 E. Kenwood Blvd.
  • Cambridge Commons: Urban Ecology Center, 1500 E. Park Place
  • RiverView: Gordon Park Pavilion, 2828 N. Humboldt Blvd.
  • Kenilworth Square Apartments: Charles Allis Art Museum, 1801 N. Prospect Ave.

If living off campus, it’s easy to go online to MyVote Wisconsin, put in your address and it’ll get you exactly where you need to go.

When going to vote, make sure you have figured out what to bring. If you’re not registered yet, bring both your ID (driver’s license, REAL ID or your student ID) and proof of residence for where you live.

The proof of residence can be a variety of things, like a pay stub, a bank/credit card statement or a handy one is a utility bill that shows you paid for your utilities (but it must be within 90 days of the election).

If you are registered, just bring your ID and cast your vote.

Before going, educate yourself on the candidates and the issues at hand. You’re doing a great job by picking up this MKZine and reading more about voting, but also make sure that the people in your community are also educated on what’s on the ballot beyond just the names on the paper.

From us at MKZine, thank you for taking the time to vote and making your voice heard!

Sincerely,

Charlie Skrade, UWM Post Multimedia Editor
