Milwaukee Recreation will host the annual Special Olympics Tournament happening this Saturday, July 18. Athletes from across southeastern Wisconsin will gather at Wick Playfield from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.

The Wick Playfield Tournament serves as a qualifying opportunity for athletes working toward regional and state competition.

Special Olympics teams are required to complete two qualifying games before registering for regional tournaments, making this event an essential step in the competitive season.

The tournament will feature competition in bocce ball, softball and tee ball. This event is a long-standing tradition that has provided competition opportunities for Special Olympics athletes for more than 25 years.

More than 20 Special Olympics agencies were invited to participate, including Walworth, Kenosha, Racine, Western Racine, Fort Atkinson, Southern Lakes, North Suburban, Wauwatosa, YMCA Pabst Farms, West Allis, Prader-Willi Homes, Spring City, Ozaukee, Hartford, Waukesha, West Bend, New Berlin, Bi-County and Team Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Recreation encourages community members to attend and cheer on the athletes.
