Mitchell Park Domes’ show dome has a new show called “Glass Under Glass” going on, and it’s as colorful as ever.
The exhibit runs from June 6 through Sept. 7 and features more than a dozen colorful stained-glass and hand-painted artworks.
Alex G. has loaded their private collection of stained glass for everyone to enjoy. He is a private collector and long-term supporter of the domes.
Thoughts on “Glass Under Glass”
The garden has more than just stained glass panels on display. There are different types of blown glass vases, bowls/plates and light covers all around the gardens and within the flowers (making it seem like there are more flowers than there are).
We start with the glass panels. There are about four display holders, which contain five stained glass works around the garden, and each panel is as beautiful as the next.
They laid the panels out a certain way so that the light captures them at any angle you look at them. As you walk around and look at the glass, notice how they look on the ground and how the colors dance on the flowers or ground.
Next group, we have glass flowers, knots and other design panels. The way the glass was formed to look like flowers was amazing to see and added depth to the gardens themselves.
At times, I was wondering if I was looking at real flowers or glass flowers because of how the light was hitting them. Another glass art I loved was the knots hanging in the hanging plants or on top of the light posts. The way the light shines through the colored glass within those knots, my photos don’t do them justice, truly, and it is a must-see.
Around the gardens, you will see vases, plates and bowls re-imagined as new art, like plates looking like flowers and vases as trees.
Last, the water and the waterfall. I kept finding new things in the water feature that I spent about 30 mins just looking at everything. It was a seek and find on what you can find and how they display the work around and in the water.
I would highly recommend swinging by the Domes and checking out this show, especially on a very sunny day, so you can see the colors from the glass dance around the ground.

Mitchell Park Domes: Entry Information
The exhibit is located in the museum’s show dome, to the left of the entrance. This dome houses five exhibits throughout the year: the train, spring, summer, fall and holiday exhibits. “Glass Under Glass” succeeds the spring exhibit “Bees!” showcasing the importance of the pollinators, which ended May 25.
Admission to the Mitchell Park Domes is payable at the door, and tickets include access to all three domes with last admission being one hour before closing.
Tickets cost is $9 for Milwaukee County residents over 12 years-old and $6.50 for residents over 60. Tickets are $10 for non-residents over 12 years old, including adults over 60. All children, student and military tickets are $6.50, and children 2 and under get in free.
On the last Thursday of every month, all tickets are only $5.
The Domes are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and major holidays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
