As the semester kicks into full swing, studying is becoming more important to students. With that being said, it is important that every student has a comfortable space to study. UW-Milwaukee’s campus has a wide range of historical, cozy and quiet buildings for students to study. Here are my top five places to study around campus.

The Union Grind Cafe:

The Grind, located in the student union, provides students with a warm and cozy place to study. With the Grind’s ambient lighting and modern retro aesthetic, students can complete their assignments while sipping on a refreshing beverage or snacking on a delicious cranberry orange muffin. One of my must haves when going to the Grind is a large peach iced tea. This refreshment gives me the energy I need to feel refreshed and to complete my assignments.

The Panthers Activities Lounge (The Pal):

The Panthers Activities Lounge, also known as The PAL, is located in the Sandburg Residence Halls on campus. This space provides students with the great opportunity to receive lots of sunlight while they study. The PAL’s modern-chic style in furniture and design allows students to study in a space that may mimic their future careers.  Some of the features that are in the PAL are indoor hammocks that are quite intimidating at first, but are extremely comfortable once you figure out how to get in them along with crafting supplies that can be utilized by students. The PAL also features unique maroon, white and orange chairs with checkered ottomans.

Golda Meir Library:

The quiet historical atmosphere and multiple levels of the library make for the perfect atmosphere for students to study and to cover historical artifacts. With many computers, conference rooms and the Grind cafe, the UWM library is the perfect spot for students to study and get historical resources for class.

Palm Gardens:

Also located in Sandburg Residence Hall, is the old ruins of the Palm Gardens. Palm Gardens was originally a diner-style food option for students living in university housing. The gardens closed down in 2022 and many students now use the booths as a study and socialization space.

The Sandburg Lawn:

Tie a hammock to a tree or place a blanket on the grass. The Sandburg South lawn is the perfect place for students to indulge in nature while studying. Not only do students come to study on the lawn, but they also engage in physical activity like Capture the Flag. Recently, TikTok sensation Sister Cindy made an appearance on the Sandburg lawn.
