Today: The Milwaukee area will start to climb out of this deep freeze that has spread all over the Midwest that started at the end of last week. Skies will be mostly sunny for the day with temperatures rising through the single digits in the morning and making it into the low teens for a high temperature which will be a nice change of pace however, northwest winds will be gusty again with sustained speeds between 10-15 mph and gust could be upwards of 30 mph with highest winds in the morning. This will push feel-like temperatures into the low middle negative teens in the morning and the negative low single digits by the afternoon. Make sure to bundle up if you have to be out tomorrow.
Overnight: By the evening and into the overnight hours northwest winds will stay consistent. Lows overnight will settle in the middle single digits and feel like temperatures will fall into the low negative teens again as skies become partly cloudy.
Tomorrow: By Thursday, a weak dome of high pressure will station itself to the southwest of the Milwaukee. This will allow for mostly sunny skies as temperatures rise through the single digits and get up to around 10℉ for a day time high. Northwest winds will turn more northerly and ease to around 5-10 mph sustained with higher gusts (especially in the morning). Just like Wednesday, winds will make it feel like temperatures fall slightly to just below zero, but this should be the last day for a while that Milwaukee will see these frigid temperatures. By the evening and into the overnight hours temperatures will slide back into the lower single digits with partly cloudy skies and winds staying consistent from the north. There is a 20% chance of some lake effect snow Thursday night. It won’t snow continuously, but from time to time the Milwaukee area will see some isolated snowflakes falling. No accumulation or travel problems are expected over the area with this precipitation.
Extended: A weekend warm up is in store for the first weekend in February. A weak dome of high pressure will move off to the southeast and a very strong dome of high pressure from the northwest again will start to move on Friday morning. Temperatures over the extended forecast (Friday-Sunday) we’ll see highs in the low teens Friday, but highs rebound into the low 20s by Saturday and Sunday. Northwest winds will be gusty Friday and Saturday between 10-15 mph sustained speeds. Also, Friday and Saturday will feature more clouds than sun because of lake effect snow showers from time to time, but as mentioned prior no accumulation is expected from this precipitation. Sunday will be a nice day with plentiful sunshine and northwesterly winds in the morning, but start turning to the west and eventually the southwest by late Sunday afternoon. Speeds won’t be impressive at all with 5-10 mph sustained. Winds will increase slightly Sunday night into Monday as a warm front approaches from the west, which is expected to bring snow.
