Today: Our weather today looks to be the last stretch of a cold, wet and cloudy week. The morning begins with overcast skies and a continuation of strong winds from yesterday. Temperatures begin in the mid 40s and are likely to sit around there through the course of the day as a cold air mass is dragged down with the northwesterly winds around 30 mph. Low pressure proceeds to affect the area bringing chances of isolated showers for the second half of our day. We could see our first shower around 1 p.m. with on-and-off showers likely through the course of the day. Temperatures look to only rise to 49 degrees as a high with winds calming as the day progresses.

Tonight: Showers become a bit more sparse as we enter the evening hours. Breezy winds still occupy the area with gusts reaching 20-25 mph as night falls. High pressure begins nudging into the area, causing a break in the clouds late tonight, as temperatures fall to 39 degrees for a low.

College of DuPage NEXLAB Forecast 18Z HRRR; showing precipitation valid 12 p.m. Wednesday through 12 a.m. Thursday

Tomorrow: High pressure finally takes over the area bringing sunshine back to Milwaukee! Winds begin to calm a bit, where we finally see relief from the strong gusts over the past few days. The breeze still remains noticeable though, periodically gusting around 15-20 mph. While sunny skies are on tap, temperatures stay relatively the same compared to Wednesday. High temperatures look to reach 51 degrees tomorrow, before plummeting overnight. The combination of clear skies and a light, northwest wind flow looks to bring temperatures down to a low of 35 degrees and even dropping below freezing in the early hours Friday. It’s likely that a majority of southern Wisconsin will see their first frost overnight Thursday as those temperatures dip below freezing.

Extended: On Friday we’ll awaken to frost covered surfaces until the sun rises and melts it away. Sunny skies dominate through Friday with temperatures rising to 53 degrees as a high. The wind direction shifts from the southwest, staying calm through the duration of the day. As night falls, clouds develop with lows falling to 40 degrees. On Saturday an upper air disturbance could bring the potential of returning showers later in the day, though models are still in disagreement of precipitation occurring. A warming trend continues with high temperatures reaching the mid 50s and falling to lows in the mid 40s. On Sunday, shower chances remain with highs near 60 and a bit more cloud cover developing.
